Nov 10, 2020 — Nov 19, 2020
The Department of Visual Arts and the Hilliard Art Museum have partnered together to show the 2020 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition is composed of selected works by seniors completing degree requirements in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The Department offers concentrations in Ceramics, Computer Art and Animation, Graphic Design, New Media and Digital Arts, Metalwork and Jewelry, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture.
In their final academic year, visual arts students take two specialized courses devoted to the development of independent research as well as professional skills and career goals. Emphasis is placed on rigorous studio experimentation and the development of a personal direction or thesis. Each student in collaboration with his or her major professor and thesis committee selects work for the BFA Exhibition.
Students engage in writing design briefs and artist statements, as well as statements addressing influences important to the development of their work. In addition, these courses explore readings in theory and criticism, critical discussion of their peers’ work, and other areas related to professional development. The work produced during the final academic year commonly serves as a catalyst for graduating seniors as they continue their training as professional artists and/or in graduate studies.
The Hilliard Art Museum is located on campus at 710 East St. Mary Boulevard in Lafayette, Louisiana. The museum's galleries are open on Tuesday through Friday 9 AM to 5 PM, and on Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM.
