Associate Professor Stephanie Paine’s series, Diver, was awarded Honorary Mention for the nude figure series at the 18th International Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for Women Photographers. Diver is comprised of thirteen gelatin silver prints toned with a copper solution, which partially replaces the black metallic silver in the print with a salt compound. Copper toning results in hues of pinks and reds, yet tends to be unstable and inconsistent. Variations in each print are visible throughout the body of work. This is a quality of the technique that Stephanie embraced as each image has unique markings and characteristics that are unable to be replicated. As part of the award, she will exhibit at the Fotonostrum Gallery in Barcelona October 13 – 30, and prints will be sold in limited editions at the gallery throughout the year.
