Department of Visual Arts Assistant Professor of Art History Allison Leigh will be presenting her paper “Investing the Body: Self Made Other in 18th-Century Russian Portraiture” at The 34th World Congress of Art History Conference being held at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China on September 15 – 19th, 2016.

The 2016 CIHA (the Comité International d’ Histoire de l’ Art) Congress will analyze different concepts of art in diverse cultures, and strives to achieve three goals: the first is to respond to the latest development of art history as a global discipline; the second is to explore art through different definitions that underline its relationship to respective cultural frameworks, and the disparities between different cultures in various periods throughout history; the third is to gain a more comprehensive understanding of art as an essential part of human culture.

Allison Leigh's research specializes in the history of Russian and European art from the 18th through the mid-20th century. Beyond the history of modern and contemporary art, her research and teaching interests include the development of new art historical methodologies, masculinity studies, the philosophy of art and aesthetics, and the nexus of art theory and intellectual history in the modern era.
